چکیده

INTRODUCTION Participation in sports places specific demands on the musculoskeletal system that, over time, may cause adaptations in soft-tissue. Athletes who participate in sports requiring repetitive rotational movement on one side and not the other (such as overhead sports) have experienced differences in their side-to-side joint range of motion. Range of motion (ROM) asymmetry such as this has been linked to injury. Although this phenomenon has been documented for the upper extremities, little is known about similar adaptation in the lower extremity structures such as the hip. Athletes who participate in sports experience rotational movement in a functional capacity (weight-bearing status). Although there are established norms for passive and active hip rotation ROM, these measures have typically been made in a nonweight-bearing status. The purpose of the study was to examine anatomical limits of hip rotation ROM (weightbearing conditions) in elite female golfers and age-matched non-golfing controls to determine if asymmetry between the hips exists.

Performance and Kinematic Differences in Putting between Healthy and Disabled Elite Golfers

Golfers with disability are limited in the execution of the full golf swing, but their performance in putting may be comparable because this stroke does not demand significant strength, balance and range of motion. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare putting performance, kinetic and kinematic consistency between golfers with different disabilities and healthy athletes. The participa...

During the past 20 years, poximal femoral osteotomy has been forgotten because most orthopedic surgeon believed that total hip arthroplasty is the only treatment method for hip joint osteoarthritis. The disadvatages of proximal femoral osteotomy include: Uncertain results, prolonged rehabilitation time after surgery, little improvement in joint ROM and according tosome.euthors difficult subsequ...

Glenohumeral joint range of motion in elite male golfers: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND Shoulder injuries account for up to 17% of all golf related musculoskeletal injuries. One cause may be the repetitive stresses applied to the lead shoulder during the backswing and follow-through phases, which may contribute to the frequency of these injuries. The "elite" golfer may be pre-disposed to developing a shoulder injury based upon the reported adaptations to the glenohumera...

Kinematic relationship between rotation of lumbar spine and hip joints during golf swing in professional golfers

BACKGROUND Understanding the kinematics of the lumbar spine and hip joints during a golf swing is a basic step for identifying swing-specific factors associated with low back pain. The objective of this study was to examine the kinematic relationship between rotational movement of the lumbar spine and hip joints during a golf swing. METHODS Fifteen professional golfers participated in this st...

Strength, flexibility, and balance characteristics of highly proficient golfers.

Despite the emergence of golf-specific training programs and training aids, relatively little research has been conducted examining the physical characteristics that are important to golf performance. We studied the strength, flexibility, and balance characteristics of golfers across 3 proficiency levels based on handicap index (HCP) (<0, 1-9, and 10-20) to determine the physical characteristic...
